Normal Ethernet packets are limited to a maximum size of 1548 bytes. Received packets larger than this are typically rejected by the interface card as errors. Jumbo frame support is beneficial for sending large packets, especially when the data contained in these packets is time-critical or so large that the time required to send multiple smaller packets is excessive. Jumbo frame packets are typically up to 9000 bytes in length.
