We wished this would work
We're desperate to control mosquitos around our house, so despite the many negative reviews on these bug zappers, we bought this small one as a trial. In the 5-ish days we've used it, we saw a SINGLE bug stuck to the aluminum charge grid--and it wasn't a mosquito. We turned off all the lights in the room--even black-taping our digital devices' LED lights. Every morning, we'd wake up with new bites. Frustrated not only at still getting bitten but also at not getting a straight answer from sellers or in reviews of these products as to whether they work or not, we did a quick survey of the published literature on the efficacy of these electrical devices. The consensus among scientists who've studied the species affected and the rate of bites (on humans) with and without these devices is that they devices not only do NOT work, but also that the devices ATTRACT more biting insects into the space. This may explain why so many people report these aren't working, especially if factoring in how mosquitos find their prey (chiefly through carbon dioxide...). And if you're wondering, yes, there are published studies on the effectiveness of octenol and comparable chemical attractants added to these traps. Again, we can't find any studies that show a significant benefit of even these so-called enhanced traps. What does the research literature say works? DEET at the right concentration. :( Oh, and pacaridin--in the right formulation. Chemicals-chemicals-chemicals. But the evidence doesn't support using electronic bug zappers, even with added chemical attractants. And our experience with this zapper corroborates the experts' conclusion.

Works well against little flying insects
I bought this as we had quite a number of tiny flying insects in the house. I'm not sure where they came from but they were irritating. Gnats, fruit fly's, whatever they were we wanted them gone! I saw this was a pretty well rated product and seemed to be in-line with what I wanted, which is to plug it into a power socket and pretty much forget about it. This fit the bill perfectly! I plugged it into the socket near our fruit bowel (as in the picture) and have not seen these insects in the kitchen again. Yes, it does work as I have cleaned it out and seen first-hand. Seems to work fine for the whole room/kitchen. Note that I can still access the GCFI buttons on the socket as well. The pic does not show it that well, but I've actually had to reset it recently. I'm happy with the price and function of this product overall.

They work to zap bugs, but the indoor effectiveness may be limited.
After seemingly getting eaten alive by mosquitos this summer I decided to install some bug zapper lights near the main problem areas and they seemed to make a huge difference. I saw these on Amazon so I figured that I’d give them a try (indoors). After a couple of weeks I noticed that there were no bugs in the grid so I decided to put it outside for a night. As can be seen in the photo, these things do work to zap bugs. However, my main conclusion is that if there are a lot of competing light sources in your home (noting the dozen or so LEDs within eyeshot as I write this), the “UV” lights in these units don’t really work like the mythical Siren’s call to irresistibly attract the few mosquitos that get inside the house. Next, I’ll try them out in the garage.

I was really hoping it would work!
This little thing has a lot of good reviews that I had to try it. It did NOT work for me! I'm not sure if maybe I got a "weak" one or what the problem is. I tried it out for more than a week before leaving this review. It has been plugged in right next to the kitchen sink where I see most of the gnats. It has been on day and night with all the lights off at night. The light is bright and I would expect for them to be attracted by it especially at night, but not a single one has been zapped. I can literally see the gnats flying right next to it and not even attempt to go into the light. The photo attached was taken during the day and you can see even during the light is pretty damn bright but I have no clue why it does not attract any bugs!! :(

Flies land on it to keep warm
If 0 stars were an option I’d choose it. I knew it was a gamble, doesn’t even serve as a decent night light in the kitchen. Hasn’t zapped a single fly in the week I’ve had it and there’s plenty to get!

great for the price
I don't have a lot of bugs where I live. But I noticed I couldn't rely on my house spiders to catch them all so wanted something to pick a few off now and then. I installed in my bathroom and found a dead mosquito in it the next morning. For $5 you can't go wrong. I don't think it will work any miracles but clearly bugs are attracted to it and clearly it can kill them. However I'm sure it only works in complete darkness, so if you have a night light in your room I wouldn't expect as much success. It's almost bright enough to use as a night light but not really, they use UV bulbs (which attract some types of mosquitoes but not all) and so the light it emits isn't very useful as a nightlight. Two small cons.It doesn't really have much space to keep the dead bugs. Some other reviews are saying they are catching many bugs a night with theirs, if this is true I'd imagine they have to empty it frequently. I would like to see more space to hold more dead bugs. The reason for this is my next con. The instructions say not to turn this on and off frequently to preserve it's longevity. Well if you have to clean it frequently you have to turn it on and off frequently. But for $5 who cares.

Kinda works, Kinda Dangerous
Thing comes with scary list of things not to do with it. I find it funny that it says it's "child safe" but then says "keep away from children".We did have this next to bed for a bit, and it did kill a few bugs. But then a sheet got close to it, and i was worried about burning house down. You have to discharge the thing with a screwdriver before taking the plastic off to remove bugs!!! If you have little ones with small fingers (or dogs with waggy tails), keep them away.It didnt really get rid of many bugs. But it did manage to dispose of 3. So I guess it kinda works.

Ineffective and does not work as stated.
Had this up and running for over a week and a half. Not a single bug caught. My windows and balcony door has been open throughout summer and I still see the bugs flying around. This device is not effective and does not do what the description implies. The item packaging also was not sealed. Upon closer examination it looks as if the item I received was used. I can see that previous bugs have been cleaned off the heated metal. A few scuffs also indicated a used and returned item. Another reason why I will be returning this item. I expect a brand new item.

Great insect killer
This is a great mosquito and flies killer, which although requires a bit of careful handling (to avoid being electric charge to hit you) it is quite easy and convenient to use.The UV light allows it to lure in insects, although it might be recommended for night use, since it might disrupt your sleep.

poor quality
I expected a higher quality plastic and assembly to be used in a $24 product.
