You'll have trouble lighting these
NEW UPDATE:After using these for over a month I can definitively say these are bad matches.I routinely need to use 2-3 matches before I get one to light, and that's on a match strike, ie: a rough surface designed to light matches. Sometimes the match breaks in two during striking, and other times there's just not enough flammable stuff on the match tip to get it to light.I would not buy these matches again.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I'm not super demanding on where I expect these matches strike. I just want them to catch fire on my ceramic match strike. It's a rough surface and these matches generally light up there no problem. However, what other reviews say is true: the wood on some matches will break before they catch fire. Or there's too little flammable material on the tip to ignite. You fail to strike a few times and it's all gone.So yeah, these matches aren't perfect, but they're maybe 70-90% just fine. I used to buy the UCO strike anywhere matches and those felt a little more consistent, though I still had some of the same problems.

One Star
The box has printed "Strike on the BOX" not "Strike Anywhere."

Difficult to strike. Break easily. Garbage.
These used to be great matches; in fact, they were the standard against which all other matches were measured. Now they are useless kaka. They strike against the box with some effort, and will strike against 500 grit sandpaper okay, but they only strike against concrete and other surfaces with a great deal of effort, and you may have to go through a half-dozen matches to make it flame up.What happened to Diamond? The wood is soft, the match heads are small, they won't light -- this isn't the product I thought I was buying. Never again. Junque.

Strike Anywhere.... that they are supposed to.
I was concerned because of the reviews. I have been using the old, red tipped strike anywhere matches for years. Since this was all I could find, I figured I was screwed again (see fluorescent light bulbs). Anyway, bought these against my better judgement, and thankfully sometimes my better judgement is wrong. I struck 10 of these on the first strike on an old cast iron stove. Even some of my old red ones, that had absorbed some moisture weren't that reliable. "Strike Anywhere" matches do not strike anywhere. They strike on hard surfaces with at least some texture on it. Cast iron, rough stone, metal zippers, the edge of a knife... these all work fine. Striking one on the sole of your boot, like in the westerns, does not work, unless you have set concrete on the sole.

Absolute essentials!
I cannot luve without strike-anywhere matches. They have gotten difficult to find, so I am grateful for their being here.I smoke pipes while fishing and keep my Marble's Match Safe on hand (it's waterproof, Zippos are not). But it is useless with strike in box matches.Seems a shame that a few people too stupid to not play with matches have set the rules for availability of these matches for the non-uduot majority of us folk. But as long as I can still get strike-anywhere matches SOMEPLACE, I'm good.Mind you, these are by no means the quality of yore. They fling off a burning chunk of phosphorus you need to avoid and the tips break of around 20% of the time, so you only get about 80% of usable matches per box. But such is the price of nanny legislation pandering to half-wits.But my pipe stays lit. As do my hurricane lamps and candles during the regular power outages of the many summer storms here at home.Buy these. Before someone decides you no longer have a right to fire.

Great buy! Really do strike anywhere!
Extremely satisfied! Came as described 3 boxes still factory packaged. They really do light anywhere! Don't believe the reviews saying they won't. If you have a surface firm enough they will light. For example I can light them on a completely smooth glass TV stand and even a mirror. I lit them on my end table as well as the back side of a scratch off ticket placed on my leg. As long as the surface is firm enough to press adequately they will indeed light. The picture shows my glass table and all the matches I lit off of it.

Flimsy now.
I have to admit that it's been years since I've needed to purchase strike anywhere matches, so I can understand that cost cutting changes would be expected. But I was frankly amazed at how easily broken they were when attempting to strike on a concrete block. Once I adjusted the pressure to not break the stick, the tiny amount of sulphur was gone after the first attempt. Take plenty out to the fire pit!
