Q: the million doller question is, can this be install in a pc and use to store games and movies like normal?

Yes, but is is a waste of money. NAS drives are built to withstand vibrations from other HHD next to them. They also have more expansive SMART information that is only really read in NAS systems. They cache algorithms are made for raid so they might perform worse in a single drive setup. I would save the money and stick to a high performance SSD or HHD for a PC.

Q: My toshiba 8gb came with two partitions on it already - 2 and 5.4gb. is that how your 8gb hdd was, or is that a sign that it was used and returned?

The straight answer is no, only one partition. However I am using it as a secondary drive so it is partitioned as a whole. I f you installed it as the main hdd, the system automatically will break it in 2 partitions, the 2 tb for the system drive and the rest as a secondary disk. The system drive cannot be greater than 2 tb in some os. Was the box seal intact and the disk in a sealed bag?
