So far so good
I'm wary of brands outside Seagate or WD when it comes to HDDs. I've worked with others in the past and found they simply fail more often than not. Toshiba, I found one in a laptop many years ago that was simply awful. It ran very hot and burned itself up. Of course, I've also had Seagates and WD fail too but I typically have good success with them for a time before they do.Despite moving a lot of my storage bit by bit over to SSDs, the price for them still isn't great when it comes to raw storage. Gaming is another thing and definitely modern games need SSDs now. So given my increasing video storage requirements with work, I found my 3TB finally getting packed and I needed to get a bigger drive. Why Toshiba? I don't really trust them too much. History of them gives me a perception of lower quality. However, my last 3TB was going on about 10yrs old and much has changed in the HD industry since then. Seagates and WD now sell 5400 or 5900 RPM drives for the same price as the 7200RPMs. They also are cheapening on the build quality. Given I wanted to go a 6-8TB, I was shocked to find so many dumpster fire drives being sold by them. That was when I started reading about the N300s by Toshiba. They still build on the tried and true designs that work and for about the same price as the dumpster fires, you get a better built drive. Ratings and reviews back all this up. Do I need a NAS drive? No. But when given the same price for both, I'll pick the better built NAS drive over a dumpster fire any day.Performance of this N300 has been nice so far. I don't notice any loud operation sounds like others do. Perhaps because my tower already has loud fans so, I don't really care. The N300 is actually quieter than the older drives. Give or take it benchmarks around 200-220MB/sec. Which is plenty for storing video.Another thing I noticed was simple heft of the drive. I've worked with other drives that were cheaper ones within the last few years and you could feel they were light compared to older drives. This N300 feels like a sturdy older drive. The kind that keeps going well past 10 years.Overall, my opinion of Toshiba has improved a lot. I'm optimistic that this N300 will hold up. Time will tell but, given how poorly Seagate and WD are making HDDs now, I think my chances are better with the Toshiba than with them. Recommended!

Great performance/price
I have an Airport Time Capsule which had a Seagate 3TB drive, it was working good, but it was already full and there have been reports that those drives have a manufacturing defect that could make it unusable anytime without warning. So although Airport Time Capsule is not a NAS per se, I wanted to buy a NAS drive because I have the Time Capsule plugged in 24/7.In MY use case, with the Time Capsule, I had a little issue that when I plugged in the TC and didn’t accessed the drive immediately it went to sleep and the TC would just crash; that is until I unplugged it and plugged it back AND just accessed the drive, that way the drive and TC would just function properly and reliably 24/7. That worried me at first, but when I tried this drive in an enclosure plugged to a computer it functions perfectly, it spins down, sleeps and wakes correctly, ALWAYS.So, why am I giving it five stars? Because although in my use case it has that little inconvenience it isn’t the N300’s fault, it’s because of the way the TC handles drives in general. In any other use case it works perfectly.

NAS grade
The first batch of hard drives I bought ended up not having the correct software to be used for NAS, these do. They do what they're supposed to do

Reliable
Great buy. Solid, reliable and quiet. I have it inside my MacPro and it's used for my Time Machine exclusively. SSD's have their place, but...I run my Macs on SSD's. But for backing up and permanent storage I prefer mechanical. It is actual ones and zeros on a real physical disc. Data can't vanish as easily. My opinion, and everyone's entitled to it.

Used in a PC..It works.
I'm not using this is a NAS, I installed it in my PC and it works great. Install and formating was easy, quickly picked up by windows. It is really fast in fetching material on it. In my set up its mainly used to pics and videos.

Garbage. Save your money
As a few people have mentioned, there is ZERO warranty on these drives. I was really happy that I thought I had found a suitable replacement for over-priced WD drives but it seems that is not the case. You cannot purchase these drives in the US, so Amazon has grey marketed them into the US and Toshiba is deferring warranty to the seller aka: Amazon.Sadly, this practice is going to cost both Amazon and Toshiba revenue. I have about 80TB (20 x 4TB drives) that I'm going to replace with (well was) Toshiba 8TB or Toshiba 10TB drives but not any longer. I will be going back to WD and may or may not be purchasing them via Amazon (depending on what WD says about their warranties).

Works fine in my Nightowl system
My Nightowl system started alarming and the hard drive had died by the time I figured out what the alarm went to. This drive has a lot more capacity so I now get 6 weeks before overwriting occurs. It's quieter than the prior drive. It hasn't died yet. (The last drive lasted 3.5 years)

Good drives.
I've been using Toshiba for a while now and these are without issues so far (about a month). I installed 2 into a NAS and they work great. My 3bg toshiba's are at least 5 years old and have had zero issues. I'm expecting the same from these.

Quality NAS drives at an affordable price
These drives were purchased for use in Home / Small office NAS. Competitor product of the same capacity and RPM were significantly more expensive. The Toshiba drives come in at the same price as 5400rpm competitor drives. So response times should be much better. This is my first use of Toshiba NAS drives, so time will tell re: the reliability factor. So far so good, no DOA's.
