Necessary evil
They aren't cheap, but, they work and keep my machine running. I want to keep my expensive machine in top working order so I use and replace regularly. I live in a very hard water area, without the filter I would have to frequently run vinegar or other de-calcifier. These filters obviate that need.

I have never had a maintenance issue with my machine.
I have used these filters for 9 years in the same coffee/expresso machine. I change them only when the machine says to change them and have not had one single problem with the machine. I highly recommend them.
