For those who finds themselves increasingly jaded and bored with current
This Reader, published to coincide with the centenary of Sisson's birth, constitutes a valuable introduction to the work of an uncompromising poet and political thinker whose career spanned the greater part of the 20th century. For those who finds themselves increasingly jaded and bored with current, increasingly self-serving (and self-congratulatory) orthodoxies, both cultural and political, Sisson's demanding and abrasive work will provide both a challenge and a relief. The selected poems and prose cover the whole of his writing life, and importantly illuminate each other. This is clearly a key objective of the excellent Introduction byCharlie Louth and Patrick McGuiness and they achieve this admirably.
