Very good seeder!
Product is well made. The spikes do not penetrate the hard clay soil well but work much better after the ground is wet. I did have an issue with a damaged lock nut. I called Brinley customer service and they shipped a replacement right away. I have several products from Brinley and they have all been excellent!

Brinly AS2-40BH-P Tow Behind 40" Spreader has easy spreader adjustments and higher quality
Though the Brinly Tow Behind Spreader is slightly more expensive than other similar models, Amazon chose this one as preferred due to customer feedback. This new spreader is replacing an older model I bought in 2006. I preferred the Aerator spikes on this unit over the current other advertised brands. My old unit had similar deep spikes and I found that the ground penetration, especially with grass seed (and fertilizer) ensures survival of the seeds and dispersement of the fertilizer to the grass roots. When cleaning the unit after use of fertilizer and salt (?) ensure that it is quickly dried to avoid rusting of the seeder components and adjuster mechanism. My old Spreader was succumbing to that fault. With years of using an Aerator/Seeder I would highly recommend this unit.

Great Durable Seeder Aerator For Home Use!
I purchased this product almost seven years ago before having to buy it again. I still have the old one but the seeder mechanism does not work anymore. The chain has rusted out and the hopper grader is broken. This is due to no fault of the company but because I left it outside in the elements for the past seven years and completed minimum maintenance on it when used. The aerator is still operational and I have been using it but I needed this one to drop the seed for a lawn renovation. Yes, I do have a spreader but this drops the seed and provides the soil necessary to cover them to get the best germination possible. I will also say that this product does not work effectively alone, you must add a block on top, to weigh it down, to get proper penetration in the soil. The biggest detractor I see with this product is the instructions for assembly. They could have been better because if not followed closely you can install parts incorrectly. The second detractor is the fact that this is not for hard dry soil. If you did have this type soil, you may have to water it to soften it up prior to using this tool. It would also help to add more concrete blocks on top to anchor it into the soil.Like I said, I understand the shortcoming of this equipment, but it by far has shown its worth with durability and ease of seeding your lawn or even fertilization. I recommend this product as long as you are comfortable with its shortcomings!

Great Yard Tool Addition
The unit itself is very easy to assemble, but you have to be careful working around the tines as they are very sharp. I have not used the spreader yet but have used it twice to aerate my lawn. I purchased the unit to overseed the lawn which I will be doing in mid-September. There are feed rates for the spreader that are listed in the manual, which hopefully are accurate. The combination aerator/drop spreader should provide professional results, which is why I purchased it. I already own a drop spreader and a rotary spready which has 12-inch pneumatic tires. I overseeded the lawn last year and the is a noticeable difference where the drop spreader was used. The only thing that could be improved is the bracket that locks the unit in travel mode. If you are not careful, the handle will release, and the unit will drop and engage the tines. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I also purchased the Brinly sweeper that has the de-thatch combination. That is a great product also.

Invest your money, time and effort elsewhere...
BLUF - expense is not worth the time, does not justify the end product.- Challenge to assemble, even with the right tools and know-how.- Seed hopper/spreading augur/aerator is pre-assembled, thankfully, but the design is really-really poor and I doubted would last the length of the warranty (keep reading).- Wheel assembly is head-scratchingly complicated, and you have to choose whether to keep the wheel crooked (off-align toe-in) or have it properly aligned but be left with a wheel that will not spin.- Easiest part to put on was the weight tray.On the third pass using this machine, the chain connecting the grass spreader to the aerators, which is how the spreader "works", kicked completely off the gears and cannot be put back on. Rendering this 2 hour adventure little more than a flimsy, poorly designed aerator. I got 2-hours 5-minutes into the X-month warranty. If you still decide to buy, best I can say at this point is that (so far) the company has not followed up about getting a replacement. I don't know if they will stand behind their product.* final note, I bought a trailer for my lawn tractor that is a 5-star product.

Really glad I got this.
This was a little more than other aerators/spreaders but it was MUCH easier to assemble than those. - the parts are on cardboard separated in groups that correspond to each step for assembly. It’s also wider, has more tines and more points on the tine to aerate better.According to my fertilizer, you’re supposed to spread when the grass is wet, so make sure you’re lawn it cut otherwise the tall grass will get the ‘shutter link’ wet and the fertilizer or seed may clog. Also the aerator must be ‘in-use mode’ for the agitator shaft to turn and keep the seeds/fertilizer from clumping.I would like to see a better tire design – tighten the bolt too tight and they won’t spin/too loose and they flare out. Remember to oil the chain.
