Nice little device, love the eMMC memory, the USB-C power, external WiFi, etc. Depending on your needs this can be a really nice RPi alternative, especially since RPi's can't be found at any sort of reasonable price or qty in the last year or two.My unit has been stable and pretty much as expected. I thought I received a dead unit at first, but found my HDMI was not fully plugged in, it took some extra effort to get it seated all the way, this may be what some of the "Do not buy" reviews saying DOA are all about. There's another one star review complaining about trying to run Linux apps --- the unit comes pre-loaded with Android, of course it's not going to run Linux apps. I've been running Debian Bullseye on mine and it behaves as expected. I've been running .net 7 apps compiled for ARM64 on it 24/7 with no issues at all & it seems quite stable. CPU hovers around 50C with small load and jumps to 70C with heavier loads with no fan or heatsink.

I have three of these and they aren’t bad. They don’t have the same capabilities as a RaspberryPi, nor do they have the software availability. There are limited Ubuntu repos in the US that have the right arch, etc. if you want to save a few bucks and just looking to play around then these aren’t bad. Otherwise, just pony up the dough for a real Pi… if there are any in stock.

A couple things first, after purchase it said it was going to take almost a month to arrive. In reality, it took about 10 days. That's perfect.I have it running my Octoprint server now and it is running very reliably. I was having some issues with inconsistent wireless when I tried using an Armbian image but as soon as I changed to the Orange Pi Debian image everything starting working perfectly.I would suggest a small fan though, the Orange Pi 3 seem to run really hot. I just used an old one from an old laptop but a nicer setup would be to purchase a smaller one. As long as its a 5 volt fan it's an easy connection with just 2 wires. I'm probably going to add a program to adjust the rate depending on the heat but for now I just have it run all the time.

Installed Armbian Bullseye on an SD card and booted this thing up. Got pi-hole and unbound running in docker containers just fine. Fast forward a day - my Firewalla (hardware firewall) alerts me that the device is establishing outbound UDP connections to Chinese IP addresses.Upon further digging, the IPs belong to Chinese telecom companies, and a cloud server on Alibaba Cloud. Not good. I attempt to remedy the situation by doing a clean Armbian install, wiping the onboard eMMC memory (including boot partitions), and reformatting all memory including SWAP. Ran a clamav scan on the entire device and it found no viruses. Even after all this, the device STILL was establishing outbound connections to Chinese IPs. I attempted to run nethogs to trace the process that was doing this, but didn't have any success as the PIDs were listed as "?" in nethogs.TLDR: This device has Chinese spyware buried deep into some sort of onboard ROM or firmware. Don't buy this knock-off garbo single board computer, it's not worth compromising your entire home network.PS - the Orangepi Debian OS distributed by the manufacturer is the most sketchy software I've seen to date. If you do end up buying this, do not use the Orangepi Debian OS on the vendor's website, and make sure to overwrite the Orangepi Android OS that comes preloaded on the eMMC.Good luck out there in the dystopia!

This is a great little workhorse. I use it to run Solar Assistant to monitor solar power system. Has worked very well for over a year now. Easy to set up and consumes very little power.
