The NEEWER Crab Clamp Articulated Mini Ball Head arrived in a typical NEEWER branded cardboard box which contained the crab clamp, a ball head assembly with a ¼” to 5/8” adapter already connected and an Allen key. Usually there are an instruction leaflet and a customer service leaflet but on this occasion there was just 3 customer service leaflets - go figure! Unpacking the clamp and ball head assembly I was assured by the usual quality on display from NEWEER, the clamp is an all metal affair and feels very durable, the ball head has an adjustment wheel and a locking lever which have plastic parts. The clamp and the ball head are effectively independent pieces and could be disassembled from each other and used as such. The clamp on its own has both ¼” and 5/8” threaded sockets which could be used for a variety of camera or musical equipment as needed.In use the clamp is very effective, it provides good grip through the range of it’s jaws, and the rubber protection on the jaws ensures that they won’t leave damage from the metal itself – though care needed not to overtighten and crush the destination for mounting the clamp. The ball head is very flexible in the way accessories can be mounted and when tightened gave good stability and grip.Overall a versatile pair of accessories available as a single buy, and at £16.99 with a 20% voucher off it represents good value too. I could find no use for the Allen key on either accessory.

This NEEWER Articulated Mini Ball Head Crab Clamp is a very useful addition to my video/photography kit. It arrived in a small cardboard box containing the clamp, an Allen key and an adaptor to covert the standard 1/4 inch camera/accessory mount thread to 5/8 which is a standard size for microphone holders ect. It can be clamped to tripods, lighting stands, tables and pretty much any solid object which the jaws can accommodate. I am really impressed that I can get it very securely attached to the leg of my tripod without needing to apply excessive tightening of the clamp which could potentially crush the carbon tubing of my tripod. Inside the jaws of the clamp are rubber pads which grip and cushion very well to enable stable positioning of a video light, camera, microphone and other accessories which can be attached to the 1/4 or 5/8 mounting threads. The thumb wheel is also very useful for providing the secure tensioning of an accessory in the desired orientation onto the clamp. I have used it with video lights and some really weighty large condenser mics and it performed very well in holding those items in place. The ball head works well and is easily adjustable and once tightened showed no signs of drift while in use. The finish and construction of the clamp is to a very good standard and overall I consider this to be a really useful clamp with many applications which for the current price £16.99 is great value. Recommended.

This clamp arrives in a Neewer branded cardboard box. Inside the box is the clamp itself (with the ball head mount and ¼” to 5/8” adapter attached), a hex key, and a customer services leaflet.Like the majority of Neewer products, the clamp feels both well made and robust, and has a good finish throughout. With the exception of the wing-nut’s ’handle’ and the protective rubber pads in the clamp’s jaws, everything is made of metal. The measurements in the main description are correct, so I will not list them again.The clamp works extremely well and, despite being quite compact, is able to exert a good grip. There are five different ¼” sockets on it, as well as one 3/8” socket. These allow you to attach more equipment to it than just the ball head mount.The small ball head mount is attached to the clamp using a ¼” male to male adapter. This means you can remove the ball head mount if you wish, and use it elsewhere. The ball head plate has a ¼” socket for attaching equipment with ¼” sockets to it, or by using the adapter, you can attach equipment with 5/8” sockets to it instead, such as microphonesWhilst I really like this clamp and in use it works well, I do have a couple negatives.Firstly, I do not know why the hex key was included. Usually Neewer include these to either tighten/loosening socket head screws/bolts, or to act as a lever by inserting them into a hole on the product tighten it. However, there are no socket head screws on this clamp, and the hole on the front of the ball head mount (which could potentially be used as a place to use the hex key as a lever to tighten it more securely), is far to small for the hex key to fit. So I have no idea what it is for.Secondly, as versatile as this clamp is, I can’t help feeling that if they had also included a ¼” to 3/8” adapter, it would make it even more versatile, as it would cover pretty much all of the equipment you would ever be likely to use a clamp like this with.Neither of these issues prevent the clamp from doing what it is advertised as being able to do though. And given that this is a well made, versatile clamp in its own right, I have no hesitation in fully recommending it and giving it 5 stars.~ Amazon asked me to review this product and to give my honest opinion about it.
