Treachery in Death is the 32nd in J D Robb’s In Dead series and it is a favorite for a reason. Det. Delia Peabody is caught after a workout and shower. She overhears a conversation with a “Renee” and a Garnet although she can not see them… recognizing only the names. She calls her live-in EDD Det Ian McNab to come and get her asap. Together they drive to the home of her Homicide LT and partner, LT Eve Dallas and her husband the Uber-Rich Roarke. There, she tells Eve about the events including the death of a CI & junkie “Juicy” Keener. From there, Eve contacts her commander, Whitney to come to her home to hear Peabody give her report. IAB LT Don Webster is brought in, along with Eve’s mentor, now head of EDD Capt Feeney. HQ for this op, of taking down Renee Oberman, head of Illegals and those others involved, is now Roarke’s and Eve’s home. Who in illegals can they trust? Eve believes that Renee’s office is bugged. Will EDD and Roarke be able to work their magic to “bug” Renee without her knowledge? What to do with corrupt cops? Can they be taken down without compromising the case against them all?Fans of the series will love the additional characters, the lead role which Peabody embraces. The ‘fun’ the E-Geeks, McNab, Feeney and Roarke under take. And the homicide team. The ending in the last chapter is NOT to be missed and this reader will not spoil the moment. One of this readers personal favorites. No one will be disappointed. It is a hard one to put down..

It is very clear that the characters of the In Death series have hit a new level of comfort, trust and love in the relationships and this series continues to hit the mark. Although not all your favorite characters are here, most of them are and this book from beginning to end was what it is to be a police officer. If you haven't read any of the In Death novels till now, this is not the place to start. Being the near 40th installment, it's not something you can walk into and understand the dynamics. But if you go to the beginning, it's a great trip to get to Treachery in Death.The book starts off with a manslaughter case where three stoned losers rob a convenient store and one of the owners is killed. Detective Peabody is the Primary on this case working with Eve Dallas to catch the bad guys. Everything goes smoothly except when Peabody takes a clip to the ear and Eve tells her she's heavy on her feet and needs more practice. Although they joke about the takedown, Peabody takes the feedback to heart and decides to start practicing her moves in hand to hand combat. The book glides into continued hilarity when Peabody goes to the gym and sees all the beautiful bodies working out, thinks of her ratty gym bra and the size of her butt, and moves to the lower level abandoned gym that no one uses anymore. The turning point is when she finishes her workout and gets stuck naked in the shower stall to hear two cops in the room with her arguing over a deal gone wrong. Vulnerable Peabody realizes these are bad cops and barely escapes with her life since she knows she'd be killed if she were discovered.Meanwhile, Eve is still struggling with the "marriage rules" and forgets to call her husband, Rourke to tell him she's running late. Since she's already on her way home, she fantasizes about a nice quiet dinner on the terrace and how she plans to seduce him, only to get home and find that they have visitors and Rourke has already had dinner. She proceeds to have a mini hissy fit and acts all levels of ridiculous and starts sparring with Rourke instead. The argument and sarcasm that ensues is absolutely hilarious with Summerset breaking them up when Peabody and McNabb arrive to tell them what she heard. From then on, the entire novel is focused on the plotting and planning of bringing down what is easily the biggest police corruption ring they've ever had to face. Although they know who the primary two bad cops are, they realize quickly that the operation is wide spanning to multiple departments as well as potentially judges. Not knowing who to trust, their investigation is limited to Eve's small circle since she can't afford for someone innocent to say something to friends who may not be so innocent.What makes this particular installment great is, although we know who the primary guilty party is, it's great seeing Eve stir up the pot and act her beligerent self where even she admits she gets carried away. If you're a fan, reading about pissed off Eve is just fun. Add in great humor, love and respect with her main characters, Roarke, Peabody, McNabb, Feeney, Mira, Whitney, and even a entree for Webster back in her life, they all work together seemlessly to slowly trap and cage the corruption. Although the police procedure was standard, it was the interaction of characters, as well as the opportunity for things to go wrong in their carefully crafted plan that had me racing through the pages. This was a truly enjoyable read and only has me salivating for the next which interestingly enough is not title something "in death", but "New York to Dallas." Very intriguing.

4.5 stars!After basically years of seeing this series around and reading about this mystical Roarke, I gave in and decided to read the In Death Books. It was quite an undertaking, since when I started there were 33 books already released in the series, not counting short stories and novellas. Besides that, deciding to read this series was a big commitment in two fronts. One, I simply had to by 33 books and secondly, I would not be reading anything else until I was done. That's how psychotic I can be when it comes to book series.December 2011 was when my journey began and by February 2012 I was done and now there is NO turning back. I am IN LOVE with this series! I not only obviously love Roarke, but I love Eve and all the secondary characters that make up this great story as well.Yes, I have become irritated with Eve at times, but I adored being able to see her grow throughout the series. It has been quite a ride, but one I will never regret hopping aboard.This series is a great mix of mystery, police drama and romance. I love every aspect of it, from the near futuristic setting, to the way J.D. Robb writes her prose. If there is one thing that bothers me, is that considering the series has 35 books published, the span of time that has passed is very short and I wish the lapse between books was a bit longer. But if you read the books throughout a longer period of time, it won't really matter, but reading them so close together made me wish for that longer lapse.Eve is such a complex character. All that she has been through has made who she is, but her story is not less heartbreaking because of it. For that matter, so is Roarke's and the fact that these two found each other is nothing less than serendipity. They need each other and I am sure they would never have grown to be who they are in the series by book 35, if not for each other's presence in their lives. Not to mention the "family" they have built with their dear friends.One of the biggest issues brought up in this series by J.D. Robb, is the Nature Vs. Nurture debate. I love it! It always makes me think and it is very satisfying to see these people that could have become something very wrong, rise above nature and blood, to become amazing people.On the crime fighting aspect of the series, I find that Robb uses two types of narrative. Sometimes she carries more of a "Monk" style, where the perpetrator is clear if not early on, but soon. The other one is where we get a punch in the face when we finally find out out who it is. I really enjoy that she doesn't have only one style, since that always keeps me guessing =DI LOVE this series and if you have yet to check it out, please do so! The first few books might not compel you completely, but keep reading! You won't regret it!

I enjoy all of the Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb books but this was absolutely fantastic! I’m reading them in order. Some are better than others but this one made me laugh and cry and just feel so happy with the end. I loved this one!
