Its good to keep this in your gig bag. Not saying a good rag won't give you similar results just that its handy.

This works on both!! Plus this one has the micro on finger BOARD side. Put a little lemon oil on there and string cleaner inside and kill 2 birds with one stone!!! Plus it really WORKS!!!

The String cleaner seems to work just fine for me. My strings stay clean and residue is wiped from my fingerboard in one sweep of this device. The one thing that I'm not enthusiastic about is the latching mechanism that the inventers devised. (A minor issue, in my opinion, but worth subtracting a star.) I'm still not sorry that I bought it!

Pros:It's a fast way to do a basic cleaning of the strings and the fretboard. Wish they'd thought to do this with the guitar version.It cleans up fairly quickly with hand soap (best to use the liquid type).No harmful chemical residue is left on the strings to transfer to your hands (and then maybe to your eyes, mouth, wherever).Cons:The latch has a lot of trouble closing, especially if you're dealing with five or more strings.The cleaner won't clean a normal width six-string bass all at once. The latch gets in the way while you're cleaning four strings at a time.If you have the string action set fairly low, the cleaner won't push under the strings when you're at the lowest frets.You still have to use a cloth to clean the nut and saddles/bridge areas.After washing the cleaner, you must let it sit out overnight to air dry.Final thoughts: It works well enough at the cleaning part and never really wears out, but the bad points tend to outweigh the good. There are much better products out there for cleaning strings, although this one is the least risky, chemical-wise.

Husband loved it, said it made cleaning his strings quicker, easier and better than how he was cleaning them before.
