Essential Martin Carthy

A wonderful 2-CD collection reflecting the career of one of the most influential figures on the folk scene since the sixties. It's excellent value-for-money and a must for all Martin Carthy fans. There's not a weak track to be heard; the guitar work is superb, the singing crystal and the supporting cast isn't bad either.

This is an unbelievable bargain whether you purchase the CD or mp3. Martin Carthy and his wonderful family have created so much fantastic music that this just touches the surface but it really is a great start, if you're starting, or a great 2 disc compilation if you have most of the stuff already.

A trip through the life of Martin Carthy. If anything, a nod to the Imagined Village would have been nice, to add to the solo, Swarbrick, Brass Monkey and Waterson songs on here, but I don't think there is anything missing that should be on it.

This is a good collection of Martin Carthy songs covering most of his best songs. Laid out in chronological order they span 60 years of his career. Now at the age of 72 he still sounds just as good. I went to see him in concert recently and he signed the CD cover.
