It comes with a sponge head. I have to say that I was not happy with the spong head. It came apart so easily. I ordered another one and had the same problem

Q: What material is the handle made from? I need a wood handle so it can be cut down for children to use.

The handle is metal. But don't buy this mop. Maybe the one I have was broken, but I received no response from the company about my complaint. The mop head keeps falling off because the locking mechanism does not work. You can cut down a metal handle with a hack saw with a metal cutting blade and wrap duct tape around any sharp edges.
