My hair loves Matrix!
Anything Matrix is the best. This gel keeps my curls from frizzing or smooth when I choose to flat iron my hair. I always buy Matrix, whether it be gel, hairspray, shampoo and conditioner. My hair loves these products.

Closest replacement for the discontinued Matrix Vavoom Hold My body
I was disappointed when I found out Matrix discontinued their Vavoom Hold My Body hair gel.It was my favorite gel because it worked great with damp hair while leaving a flexible hold that also moisturized.Scalpers on Ebay are selling the remaining bottles for over $100 ea which is crazy.I tried several other gels from different brands and none of them worked like the Vavoom did.None of them liked being applied to damp hair, all the other gels didn't want to mix with water and also felt like my hair wasn't being moisturized.Matrix has a 'Discontinued Products' web page with recommended replacements but it doesn't list the Vavoom. I had to do a lot of research online to find out that the Matrix 'Controller Gel' is basically the closest replacement.And YES it is! Finally exactly what I was looking for! It works just like the Vavoom Hold My Body did and has a really nice scent. It DOES seem to have a slightly stronger hold than the Vavoom did.I really want to give it 5-stars because this gel is exactly what I wanted, but I'm giving it 4-stars because it's expensive for the amount of gel you get. You get less than half (6.8oz vs 16.9oz) the gel than the Vavoom and it costs more. At least with the Vavoom is you spent $20 you got a big bottle that would last a long time.I would be happy if they offered a bigger bottle for a better value.This is a high quality hair gel, but it's expensive for the price.

Mehhh.... What I was using for years was discontinued and I did my best to guess for a new product. I for sure won't but it again! The "hold" just isn't there.

Too sticky and too thick to work on my curls
The product is too sticky and thick - not loose enough to get through my hair evenly. Maybe if you add water but then it would probably compromise the gel's hold. I might try again on very wet hair with some water added to the product but I really wish Matrix would not have discontinued Vavoom hair gel - I've seen many complaints from people who loved Vavoom, which was around for years. This is not at all a good alternative :-(
