This is a quality tool
High quality tool, works very well. I build wooden models and crafts from wood. I have used this tool to add detail and personalization to my projects.

didn't care for at first but better, updated 12-19
buyers remorse at first but now OK, I wish it had a little more power, is pleasant to use, quiet and vibration is too much of a problem, spent a little time working the edge of the chisels and that solved some problems, I would recommend but probably wouldn't buy another,....update 12-19, it turned into a baby rattler , the electrical components fell apart, some use but not excessive for what it was designed for , bought another cause not a lot of choices, soo on second ,..... the switch is in a stupid place always switching off when using

Did some experiments with various wood and it cut mahogany as easily as rosewood or pine
Only had the item for 20 min but it deserves the review. Amazingly quiet. Cuts very clean. Did some experiments with various wood and it cut mahogany as easily as rosewood or pine.Tried it on dry lemon wood which is very hard and had no issues.Decided to try it on my birds mansanita stick which is like a rock. It cut clean but a heavy cut bogged it down.Even tried it on aluminum and was shocked.Its solidly built. A little heavy but that's ok with me because it feels like a tool and not a plastic hunk of junkI will update this at some point in the future to review durability.I believe this is well worth the money

Great BUT...
Ok, first one lasted two days and they replaced it. Second one just burned out after less than 3 months. Freaking garbage for the price. I'm an artist and I can't afford to keep buying these. Tried ontacting customer service and it isn't even the company. If you have the money to keep replacing them, I'd buy about six at once cause that's what you're going to go through in a year.

Proxxon Power Carver
I purchased this carver for dad who is a wood-turner and provides blocks and molds for glassworkers. He needed a tool to finish what he started on the lathe. I compared several options (some of which were twice the price) before deciding on this one. Dad has been very happy with the performance of this tool. He purchased a larger chisel because the cutters which were provided with the tool weren't large enough. This tool is everything he expected. The Proxxon Power Carver works well with the larger chisel. The tool appears to be of good quality; I expect it to last a long time.

Surprisingly functional and well designed.
This thing is great. I’m finding uses all over the place for this tool. I thought it would be harder to control but it is motionless until you put it under pressure and then it works like it is reading my mind. Awesome tool!

Did not receive the MOS model!
I would just like others to be aware that they may not receive the Proxxon Power Carver MOS they think they are purchasing. I just ordered this unit but upon receiving it realized it was a Power Carver MSG. I wanted the MOS because I had read that it was an improved model over the previous one.I was informed that the 38642 Power Carver SGM has been replaced with 38644 Power Carver MOS. The SGM is 12,000 cuts/min, the MOS is 10,000 cuts/min. The MOS has a more powerful motor and is a little larger than the SGM. The MOS has aluminum front housing.In contacting Amazon they were helpful and great to deal with. They said I could return it or that they would offer me a 25% discount on what I had paid for the MOS I ordered on their site. I needed to start a project and didn't want to wait so I accepted their discount offer. I'm not sure of the price difference between the MOS and SGM models.I can't comment on the MOS because I was sent the MSG model. It is quiet when running and did not seem to heat up in excess when working. It does seem like it may be somewhat underpowered for larger chisels and gouges. For smaller ones I think it will work fine.If your heart is set on the MOS I hope you get the correct model shipped to you.

A must for wood carvers
I've used the Proxxon reciprocating power chisel for decades and wore out my old one. If wood carving is your thing get one of these.
