Q: how do you unlock it the first time? I have the 2Tb iStorage hard drive and I lost the box :(

Hi thank you for contacting iStorage. Please plug the drive in to your PC and wait for the RED led to come on. Then please enter the default PIN of 11223344 and press UNLOCK. This should give you access to your diskAshur2. Q: Can you use a different cable to connect to the drive or is the cable pictured 'wired in'?

Cable is wired in. But you can use a USB Extender cable. Check if its a USB 3 Extender , because if its a USB2 then it will run but slower. NB USB 3 have 9 Connections in them and are blue, whereas USB 2.0 are white.

Q: Hi, is this drive enrolled in Bitlocker ?

Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting iStorage. The diskAshur 2 can be entirely encrypted using Bitlocker To Go in Windows in addition to the secure hardware encryption it already possesses. Alternatively, the diskAshur 2 can also be used to store the Startup Key and to decrypt the OS drive encrypted by Bitlocker. Q: What happens if the keypad breaks? Is my information “lost” forever?

I think the keypad is very unlikely to break as the device is very robust. However, my 2TB HDD device has, this week, stopped working. No lights come on and I cannot access it. All data is therefore inaccessible. I would recommend that any data is mirrored on another device which puts the cost of secure storage up as the devices are not cheap. I am very disappointed and iStorage tell me the failure is extremely rare and visually unheard of. They have offered to repair or replace the device as it is under a year old providing I send the broken unit back which is a fair offer.
